Warm Memories
My favorite memory of last October was meeting up with my parents in New Mexico, and having them meet Nell. We’ll plan another visit soon enough, I’m sure – especially with a new “granddog” in the picture that needs her velvet head kissed by the California sun.
But back to October. Several hours after we parted ways at the interstate in Albuquerque, Melissa and I stopped for gas along an old section of Route 66 in Santa Rosa. The four lane road, once lined with charming 1940’s motels, gas stations and restaurants – had long been forgotten as it transformed into a lonely frontage road.
I spent the next hour exploring several spots along the three (or so) mile stretch; peering through broken windowpanes, and straining to find the perfect angle to capture a neon sign. Here are a few of the better results, and I’ll certainly revisit the originals in the future to select more.
