Hounds on Parade

Jul 04 2010 Published by Brad under Everyday Life

Our beautiful little hounds participated in Evanston’s 4th of July parade today.

Along with 20 or so fellow Greyhounds Only alum, we made the 1.6 mile walk along Central Avenue – preceded by the clanging bells of antique fire trucks and politicians in convertibles… and followed by high school drum corps and bouncy youths known to Chicagoans as the Jesse White Tumblers.

Ever the over-acheivers, I sketched out a pair of little capes for the girls to wear during the parade and Melissa lovingly sewed them together from half off polyester. They looked beautiful – and though the temperatures soared past 90 (and I wound up carrying two of the panting pups partway,) it was still a fun day and a wonderful opportunity to spread that good animal rescue karma. The hundreds of kids reaching out from the curbs to pet our hounds obviously agreed.
